Tu B’Shevat Celebrations at CJA: A Lesson in Nature and Community

Throughout the month of Shevat, students at our school have been immersing themselves in the teachings of Tu B’Shevat, the New Year of the Trees. This special time encourages us to appreciate the natural world, care for the environment, and reflect on how we can contribute to making a positive impact in our communities and beyond.

Our youngest learners, along with their parents, had a memorable experience with a visit from the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The visit began with an enlightening presentation for parents, followed by an interactive planting activity in the classrooms. It was a joy to see the excitement as students planted seeds and eagerly anticipated watching them grow—symbolizing the growth and potential of our own young learners.

Meanwhile, our Grade 3 students took the lead in organizing a vibrant Tu B’Shevat celebration for the whole school, inviting their families to join in the festivities. Their performance served as a beautiful reminder of the holiday’s significance and our shared responsibility to nurture and protect the world around us.

No Tu B’Shevat celebration would be complete without a delicious snack, and this year was no exception. Students enjoyed a treat featuring the seven species of Israel—wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates—allowing everyone to connect with the rich traditions of our heritage while savoring the fruits of the land.

Tu B’Shevat was a meaningful celebration, filled with learning, reflection, and a shared commitment to caring for our planet.
