The CJA is pleased to be hosting its annual Terry Fox Walk and Run on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 (Preschool) and Thursday, September 28, 2023 (Grades 1-9).
Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg in 1977. His leg was amputated six inches above his knee. While in hospital, Terry was overcome by the suffering of cancer patients. As a result, he decided to run across Canada to raise funds for cancer research. During Terry’s Marathon of Hope in 1980, Terry Fox ran an average of 26 miles per day for 140 days. Terry was forced to end his run due to the return of cancer. He died in 1981. Since that time, Terry Fox Foundation offices in Canada have coordinated annual Terry Fox walks and runs.
For the last several years CJA families have raised over $2,000 annually for the Terry Fox Foundation and we would like to be able to achieve that same amount this year. This year CJA families have the opportunity to double the impact of their gift as all donations will be generously matched by the Elan Suissa Legacy Fund up to a maximum of $3,000.
Donations can be made online by visiting: https://schools.terryfox.ca/CalgaryJewishAcademy
On Wednesday, September 13, 2023 we will kick-off our ‘Toonies for Terry’ fundraiser in which students can bring in toonies for this school-wide charity event.
We invite family members to participate by volunteering in many ways. Here are the ways you can volunteer:
We require parent volunteers from all classes, including junior high. We are hoping that each class from grades 1-3 have 3 parent volunteers and grades 4-8 to have at least one parent volunteer.
If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up by clicking here.
If you would like to volunteer you will need to be a registered volunteer with the school. Please follow the link below to complete your registration and CJA administration will get in touch with you regarding next steps for a vulnerable sector clearance. Please note the vulnerable sector takes approximately 10 days to clear.
