Part Time K to 9 School Counsellor

The Calgary Jewish Community is seeking an experienced part-time school counsellor. Individual will be responsible for providing counselling and guidance services to students within a private school setting. This position involves supporting students’ social, emotional, well-being, collaborating with parents, teachers, and administrators to create a positive and safe learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Individual Counselling: Conduct one-on-one counselling sessions with students to support social, emotional, and academic concerns, providing support and guidance tailored to their unique needs.
  • Provide counselling sessions, focusing on topics such as stress management, conflict, study skills, and self-esteem building.
  • Ability respond to urgent situations and provide immediate support to students experiencing emotional crises, working closely with relevant stakeholders, such as parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Collaborative Support: Collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to develop intervention plans, provide consultation, and ensure a cohesive support system for students.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including counselling sessions.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with research and best practices in school counselling by attending relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Preference will be given to individuals with a Master’s Degree in Counselling or Social Work degree. Possession of a Master’s degree in counselling or a related field is required, demonstrating advanced knowledge of counselling theories, techniques, and ethical standards.
  • Counselling Experience: Previous experience working as a school counsellor, preferably in an educational or school setting, is highly desirable.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Empathy and Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated ability to empathize with students’ concerns and maintain cultural sensitivity in a diverse school environment.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with various stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and administrators, to provide comprehensive support to students.
  • Confidentiality: Adherence to strict confidentiality guidelines and ethical standards, ensuring the privacy and well-being of students.
