Our Grade 7 and 8 students recently returned from an unforgettable educational adventure to Ottawa, and what a journey it was! From the moment they arrived in our nation’s capital, the trip was filled with powerful learning experiences, meaningful connections, and memories that will last a lifetime.
Their first full day set the tone for the entire trip, with visits to some of Canada’s most significant institutions. Students explored Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada, gaining insight into our democratic system and the rule of law. They reflected deeply at the National Holocaust Monument and explored Canada’s military history at the Canadian War Museum, engaging with exhibits that made the past come vividly to life. A special thank you to our guide, @ericboutinbloomberg, whose passion and storytelling helped bring these moments to life in unforgettable ways.
The learning continued at the Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum, where students descended into a massive underground bunker built to shelter the government during a potential nuclear attack. As they explored emergency broadcast rooms, blast doors, and historical exhibits, students were full of questions and curiosity, diving deep into Canada’s Cold War history and the strategic planning behind it.
The final full day in Ottawa was a perfect blend of science, culture, and Indigenous learning. At the Canada Science and Technology Museum, students engaged with interactive exhibits, explored vintage technologies, and even stepped aboard old locomotives. Later, at Mādahòkì Farm, they connected with Indigenous traditions and the land and made some new animal friends along the way (shoutout to Pickles the goat for stealing everyone’s heart!). The day ended with a visit to the National Gallery of Canada, where students reflected on iconic works of Canadian art and explored powerful contemporary pieces.
Throughout the trip, students walked the historic streets of Ottawa, taking in the architecture, culture, and significance of our capital city. Beyond the landmarks and lessons, this experience was about more than just what they saw, it was about what they shared: meaningful conversations, deeper friendships, and the joy of learning together outside the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of how our students represented our school with curiosity, kindness, and teamwork every step of the way. This Ottawa journey truly brought classroom learning to life and reminded us all of the power of hands-on, real-world education.
