Community and Advancement Director

The Calgary Jewish Academy is excited to announce an opening for a Community and Advancement Director. This part-time role will be approximately a 20-hour per week commitment, depending on the time of year.

CJA faculty and staff immerse themselves in school life: from coaching athletic teams, sponsoring clubs, chaperoning school trips, to heading up numerous extra-curricular activities. Teachers and staff get to know our students one-on-one. Each day at the CJA is different. Each day at the CJA is rewarding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the main contact for community stakeholders, including parents, grandparents,
    local businesses, and broader Jewish community organizations (e.g., Calgary Jewish
    Federation, Prizmah, PJ Library, and the Life and Legacy Program).
  • Manage donations received by the school.
  • Represent the school at community events, networking functions, and other public forums.
  • Working closely with the Marketing and Communications Specialist, build and maintain
    strong relationships with media outlets (e.g., Alberta Jewish News, Canadian Jewish News).
  • Seek out and apply for grants that would be valuable to a school setting.
  • With the Event Planning Specialist, plan and execute special events that advance the
    school’s mission and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, such as fundraising
    galas, open houses, and donor appreciation events.
  • Work closely with the Event Planning Specialist on events including the yearly Gala,
    Grandparents and Grandpals Day, annual Latke Lunch, open houses, grade specific
    milestone programs, Year End BBQ.

Collaboration with School Leadership:

  • Work closely with the Head of School/Principal and the governance Board to align
    advancement goals with the school’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide monthly reports and updates on advancement activities, fundraising progress, and
    community engagement initiatives.

Budget and Reporting:

  • Develop and manage the advancement budget, ensuring cost-effective initiatives that align
    with financial goals.
  • Prepare and present reports on fundraising performance and donor engagement outcomes
    to the Head of School/Principal and the governance Board.

Coordination with Parents’ Association:

  • Collaborate with the CJA Parent Association (CJA-PA) to support fundraising efforts,
    including bingo nights, casinos, raffles, and other community events.
  • Provide guidance and support for PA initiatives to ensure alignment with the school’s
    advancement strategies.
  • Assist in planning and executing PA events to raise funds and engage the broader school
    community.

Jewish Heritage and Culture:

  • Ensure all advancement activities reflect the school’s commitment to Jewish values,
    culture, and tradition.
  • Work with the Head of School/Principal and Head of Judaic Studies to integrate meaningful
    Jewish elements into community events and fundraising efforts.
