Grade 1: My Community

Grade 3: What does it mean to be a Jew in the Diaspora?

In this inquiry, students will examine characteristics that determine quality of life for Jews in their own community in Canada to compare and contrast with Jewish communities in Tunisia, India, Peru, and the Ukraine.

Grade 4: Little Synagogue on the Prairie
Grade 4 students at the Calgary Jewish Academy will work collaboratively with Heritage Park in bringing the history, stories and culture forward from the students in the re-creation of the synagogue.
grade 6: Tzedaka
Throughout the course of history, Jewish people formed communities that held Tzdaka at very high esteem. What are the unique aspects of Tzdaka that makes this a uniquely "Jewish" concept? How has Tzedaka been understood by the Jewish people at different times and locations? In this inquiry, students will examine characteristics of Tzedaka and compare them with similar concepts developed by other cultures / religions.
  My Place in the Universe
In this inquiry, students will look at sky science past, present and future and determine where our place on this planet fits in the grand scheme of things. Students will also develop an understanding of the Lunar Calendar and its significance for Jewish traditions, customs and religion.
